Mitt Romney's Deception: First edition (2011)

MITT ROMNEY'S DECEPTION:
His Stealth Promotion of "Gay Rights" and
"Gay Marriage" in Massachusetts
(2011 edition)

by Amy L. Contrada

Mitt Romney's Deception reveals the former Massachusetts Governor's promotion of "gay rights," his unconstitutional implementation of "gay marriage," and his support for sexual-radical programs in the Massachusetts schools. The outrages Romney failed to halt set horrible precedents for radical leftist victories nationwide. Contrary to his claim that he defended marriage, the Constitution, traditional values, and religious freedom, he actually undermined them.

Contrada's research will prove invaluable in assessing Mitt Romney as a Presidential candidate. Focusing on the issue of "gay rights," Contrada documents his largely untold history as Governor. During those years (2003-2006), Romney:
* worked closely with homosexual activists and pro-gay rights advisors
* implemented "gay marriage," violating the Massachusetts Constitution
* pushed a constitutional amendment strategy doomed to failure, and ignored the call to remove the "gay marriage" judges
* funded and promoted GLBT indoctrination in the public schools through his Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and his Department of Education "Safe Schools" programs
* undermined religious freedom, failing to defend Catholic Charities in the "homosexual adoptions" fiasco
* continued or implemented radical GLBT programs in his executive departments

This superbly documented history has over 900 detailed footnotes. It is a unique resource by an activist on the front lines of the culture war during Mitt Romney's term as Governor.

Mitt Romney's Deception: His Stealth Promotion of ‘Gay Rights’ and ‘Gay Marriage’ in Massachusetts (NEW BOOK)

[7-20-2011 NOTE: The E-book edition is no longer available.]

Just Published: A Hard-Hitting Book on Mitt Romney’s Pro-Homosexual Record while Governor of Massachusetts

Massachusetts pro-family activist Amy Contrada has just released her definitive study of Mitt Romney’s role in implementing ‘gay marriage,’ promoting GLBT ‘rights,’ and supporting the sexual-radical agenda in the Massachusetts schools while Governor. The book is now available at Amazon.

Mitt Romney’s Deception: His Stealth Promotion of ‘Gay Rights’ and ‘Gay Marriage’ in Massachusetts
By Amy L. Contrada
$9.99 at Amazon Kindle (2nd Kindle Edition, March 2011)

Contrada details how Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney supported the homosexual and transgender agenda on same-sex ‘marriage,’ sexual-radical indoctrination in the schools, and societal transformation – while posing as a defender of the Constitution and traditional family values.

Mitt Romney is no conservative, despite his attempts to appeal to that element in the Republican Party. He is an ‘establishment fixer’ – a preserver of the status quo at best, or a promoter of social liberal causes and institutions at worst. In Massachusetts, the establishment – protected and advanced by Romney – was uniquely committed to the radical homosexual and transgender agenda.

Conservatives will find Contrada’s research invaluable in evaluating Romney as a Presidential candidate. Even those uninterested in Romney will find this a fascinating record of sexual-radical activism, whether for same-sex ‘marriage’ or school programs promoting GLBT ‘rights.’ The book is a rare combination of political history and analysis, enlivened by uncompromising commentary from a front-line activist.

Focusing on the issue of ‘gay rights,’ Contrada documents Romney’s largely untold history as Governor of Massachusetts:

• How Romney implemented same-sex ‘marriage’ while ignoring the Massachusetts Constitution.

• How Romney followed a constitutional amendment strategy doomed to failure, while ignoring the possibility of removing the judges who ruled for same-sex ‘marriage.’

• How Romney undermined the principle of religious freedom and failed to defend Catholic Charities in the ‘homosexual adoptions’ fiasco.

• How Romney implemented radical homosexual and transgender programs in his Department of Social Services and Department of Public Health.

• How Romney funded and promoted homosexual and transgender indoctrination in the public schools through his Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and his Department of Education ‘Safe Schools’ programs.

• How Romney worked directly with radical homosexual activists to promote their self-defined ‘rights.’

• And much more.

The book is superbly documented with over 900 detailed footnotes directly linked to sources. It includes a compendium of Romney’s public statements related to ‘gay rights’; contemporary commentary; a detailed timeline covering Romney’s implementation of same-sex marriage; extensive detail on sexual-radical indoctrination in the Massachusetts schools; and many previously unpublished photographs. It is a unique resource by an activist on the front lines of the culture war during Romney’s term as Governor.

Scott Brown Going Wobbly on Gay Rights?

Is this what conservatives supported in electing Scott Brown? I don't think so! Let's hope this is just wishful thinking  on the gay activists' part. Then again, pro-gay Romneyites are advising Brown. Hold the line, Scott!

From EDGEBoston (GLBT news), Feb. 1:

Graham Wilson, a Political Science Professor at Boston University, believes Brown’s views on social issues will evolve in time.
"I don’t know his stand on (gay marriage) in detail but I do think he will moderate and has shown signs of doing so already," Wilson told EDGE. "Now that he has the Republican nomination, his challenge is to avoid defeat in general elections that will be held in what for him are likely to be less favorable circumstances."
Someone who is familiar with Brown’s positions on LGBT issues is Scott Gortikov, the Executive Director of Mass Equality, who said Brown has expressed "consistent opposition to LGBT equality" as a State Senator.
Gortikov does hold out the hope that Brown may be inclined to be more supportive of the LGBT community on certain issues considering the company he will be in.
"He is a junior Senator from a Massachusetts delegation and this is a delegation that has supported issues of equality for a long time," Gortikov said. "(Brown) touts not only his traits of independent thinking but also his conservative credentials. There may be nuances to his thinking when it comes to future votes on LGBT issues."

Bay Windows (linked with EDGE) also posted an "open letter" to Scott Brown, asking for a "dialogue". They're "awaiting his reply."

Kevin Jennings Supported by Obama & Jill Biden

Kevin Jennings’ GLSEN has support in the highest places. We’ve reported that Jennings and his “partner” hosted Barack Obama in their home during the Presidential campaign. And the Bidens are indebted as well for Jennings' help delivering the GLBTQQIPS* vote.
On June 1, 2009, Jill Biden (Mrs. Joe) proudly appeared as "a very special guest" at GLSEN's gala “Respect Awards” fundraiser in New York. [See video here.]

Who's up next year? Michelle Obama? (Unless, of course, Kevin Jennings has left his office as "Safe Schools Czar" in disgrace by then.) Maybe Mrs. O will bring her daughters to "jump start" their participation in this "civil rights" battle.

Jill Biden said:
(2:35) As an English teacher [at high school and community college], I’ve read my students’ personal journals and learned through intimate conversations about their pain and their anxiety. …
(5:00) [The goal:] ending bigotry and fear … I am proud to tell you that the Obama-Biden administration shares your commitment to making sure that every student has a safe school. Each child, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression deserves an education. Recently, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan – and he’s a great guy – met with GLSEN student leaders to hear ideas about improving their schools. And starting next month, Secretary Duncan will have an excellent partner in this work – someone you all know well: GLSEN founder Kevin Jennings. … This is GREAT NEWS!

GLSEN wrote
NEW YORK, May 13, 2009 - GLSEN is very pleased to announce confirmation of a very special guest at the Respect Awards - New York gala: Dr. Jill Biden, wife of the Vice President and a lifelong educator. Dr. Biden will also provide brief remarks at the gala dinner, which will be held at Gotham Hall in New York City on June 1....
Dr. Biden has a long history of activism and service in her community and she continues to work to raise awareness on education, military families, and women's health issues. GLSEN's Respect Awards recognize individual and corporate leaders who have helped propel GLSEN's efforts to ensure safe schools for all of America's students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.

Kevin Jennings' Theory: 20% of Americans Are "Staunch Bigots"

Kevin Jennings, Obama's "Safe Schools czar", advised "LGBT" activists "to have loud and strong voices that shout over anti-gay efforts and convince the easily-influenced majority." From a talk he gave in 2006:

Mama's Boy, Preacher's Son: A Book Signing for Kevin Jennings' New Memoir
by Meredith Nicholson
On September 21st, [2006] around two dozen people - including myself and GLSEN Boston's two Co-Chairs, Frank Pantano and Wendell K. Chestnut - attended a book signing at Brookline Booksmith by Kevin Jennings, the co-founder of GLSEN and the current Executive Director of the national organization. Jennings began by reading several sections from his memoir Mama's Boy Preacher's Son ... After the reading came a thought-provoking question and answer session. Attendees asked Jennings about topics such as his work with LGBT juveniles and foster kids, the oppression that gay males face compared to that faced by other members of the LGBT community, advice for gay youth who are also members of deeply religious families and of course, how GLSEN got started....

He also went in depth about a fascinating psychological theory, according to which 20 percent of all people have staunchly bigoted convitions [sic] and cannot be convinced to change their beliefs, 20 percent are true supporters of the LGBT community and likewise cannot be convinced to change their beliefs [but are not "bigots"], and 60 percent are easily swayed by whichever of the first two groups has the largest presence. In this case, he said, it is important for GLSEN and others working for a world of acceptance and equality for LGBT individuals to have loud and strong voices that shout over anti-gay efforts and convince the easily-influenced majority.

Details on a GLSEN Lesson Plan in American History

Here's a lesson plan similar to what "Safe Schools czar" Kevin Jennings might have used when he taught American history at Concord Academy. One of his GLSEN disciples, a teacher at the Harvard, Mass. high school, described her lesson plan in great detail at the 2001 GLSEN-Boston conference (maybe after picking up a fisting kit?).  Ed Oliver reported for Massachusetts News:

A ninth-grade social studies teacher at Bromfield School in the town of Harvard, Kathleen Doherty, plans to incorporate “gay rights” into her U.S. History class this spring. It will not be the only school in Massachusetts where children will be taught about “gay rights.” Doherty revealed her plans to other teachers at the Fistgate II conference held by GLSEN at Tufts University on March 24. She wanted to encourage the teachers to do the same in their schools.

Although it is not advertised, this is one of the main objectives of the annual GLSEN conference, to train teachers about how to incorporate homosexuality into various school subjects. Afterwards, teachers fan out across the state better equipped to carry the gay gospel into the local schools.

GLSEN does not like to call attention to that fact, however. For instance, in a recent press release about the Fistgate II conference, GLSEN said over 40 workshops were offered on a wide range of topics, but the press release listed only a few uncontroversial examples that deal with name-calling and bullying. Not mentioned in the press release are the numerous workshops that offer advice on how to push homosexuality in the classroom starting with pre-school.

The title of Doherty’s workshop was “Gay Rights 101: Incorporating the Basics of the Gay Rights Movement Into Your U.S. History Curriculum.”

Doherty told attendees that she is concerned about how the students and the parents at her school in Harvard will respond. She has already taught the subject to the Gay/Straight Alliance, of which she is the advisor. She said they liked it.

In the workshop at Fistgate II, Doherty lectured, showed film clips and provided the following outline of the gay rights lessons that she will be giving to her class.

- The cold war years are portrayed as the dark ages of ignorance and repression. Doherty casts homosexuals as a persecuted minority harassed by President Eisenhower, the federal government, and the military. She explained that homosexuals were once thought to be security risks because they are unstable and susceptible to blackmail. For those reasons, homosexuals were routinely denied and dismissed from federal jobs and discharged from the military. ...

- Doherty recommended using the black civil rights movement of the sixties as a platform to teach about the homosexual movement. She suggested one way to introduce homosexuals into a U.S. history class would be to ask students, “What other groups were energized by the civil rights movement?”

Doherty said there are lots of parallels to the civil rights movement you could draw such as, “Should you try to assimilate and gradually gain respect, or should you demand it?”...

- According to Doherty, the 1969 “Stonewall Riots” were the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. In that incident, the police raided a Greenwich Village gay bar on a charge of selling alcohol without a license. Three nights of rioting ensued. Doherty said you can compare it to Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat on the bus.

Doherty suggested showing to students video clips from “Before Stonewall” and its companion video “After Stonewall.” One clip shows a middle-aged man being interviewed on camera while wearing a blue suit and a woman’s flowery sunbonnet. Doherty, with a straight face, said the kids would probably snicker and giggle at that clip and it might have to be replayed. She suggested using that clip as an opportunity to show how Stonewall emboldened homosexuals to dress and act the way they really are, rather than try to conform to society’s norms. ...

Doherty said one small way she incorporates the issue of gay rights into her classroom is by using the word “gay” more frequently to prompt discussion. “They will respond, they are interested,” she said.

An advocacy handout from Doherty titled, “What One Teacher Can Do: A Checklist,” categorizes as “Low Risk,” “Some Risk,” and “Greater Risk,” actions a teacher might take to “create a safe and equitable” classroom and school. It does not specify what is meant by “risk.” Risk of angry parents? Risk of being fired? ...

Romney Strikes Again: Pushes "Gay & Transgender Rights" Ordinance in Salt Lake City

When we heard the news that the city council in Salt Lake City just approved a "gay rights" ordinance (covering both "sexual orientation" and "gender identity"), we knew in our gut that Mitt Romney was behind it. Remember, he's running for President in 2012. He wouldn't want to appear a "bigot".

Sure enough... A homosexual blog connected to an anti-Mormon documentary  ("8: The Mormon Proposition") on the Proposition 8 defeat of "gay marriage" in California posted this:

On November 10, 2009 several highly placed people featured in the upcoming documentary film 8: THE MORMON PROPOSITION were contacted by well-placed people inside the Mormon Church in anticipation of an "historic statement against discrimination" to be made by the Mormon Church.

They were told, "Watch what we are about to do. You will be pleased."

At this hour gays and lesbians all over the world hope that the Mormon Church's announcement will not be yet another Mormon public relations smoke screen and result in action that will result in full marriage equality for the LGBT community world-wide.

Since the release of the trailer for 8: THE MORMON PROPOSITION, intense scrutiny has been focused on Mormon involvement in the passage of Proposition 8 and allegations that the Mormon Church set up the infamous NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MARRIAGE which was the key player in Maine's recent ban on gay marriage.

Sources close to those who called our cast and production team alerting us to the upcoming Mormon statement on discrimination say that Mormon Mitt Romney has recently put pressure on his own church to extend an olive branch to the gay community to try and deflate the anticipated negative press that will come from the release of 8: THE MORMON PROPOSITION that would likely damage his hope for a successful 2012 presidential bid.

Ironically (and we suspect in step with the Mormon's anticipated statement on discrimination) Mormon-owned KSL TV released an article on their web site saying "Romney appears to be front-runner in 2012 election."

The homosexual blog Towleroad picked up the Mitt Romney connection.

Kennedy Funeral Mass a "Scandal" Says Catholic Action League of Mass.

We have no comment upon the death of Senator Ted Kennedy. (If you can't say anything good ...) But we are eager to share this press release from the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts:

SATURDAY, AUGUST 29, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: C. J. DOYLE (781) 251-9739

SCANDAL AT MISSION CHURCH IN BOSTON

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts today decried the scandal which occurred this morning at Boston's most historic Catholic shrine --- the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, known as Mission Church --- where a Mass of Christian Burial was used to “celebrate the life” of one of America's most notorious opponents of Catholic morality, the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Senator Kennedy fought for more than three decades to keep the killing of pre-born children legal and unrestricted in the United States.

Surgical abortion has claimed more than fifty-one million human lives since 1973. The Catholic religion defines abortion as an “abominable crime”.

President Barack Obama delivered the eulogy, in which he alluded to Kennedy's support for gay rights. One of the Prayers of the Faithful was a petition to end divisions “between gays and straights”.

Ecclesial participants included Rev. Raymond Collins, Rector of the Basilica; Rev. Mark Hession, Kennedy’s parish priest from Our Lady of Victories Church in Centerville on Cape Cod; Rev. J. Donald Monan, Chancellor of Boston College; and Sean Cardinal O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, who thanked President Obama for his words and his presence. Both the homilist, Fr. Hession, and Cardinal O'Malley suggested that the late senator had found eternal salvation.

The Catholic Action League called the event “a tragic example of the Church’s willingness to surrender to the culture, and serve Caesar rather than Christ”.

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle stated: “Senator Kennedy supported legal abortion, partial-birth abortion, the public funding of Medicaid abortions, embryonic stem cell research, birth control, federal family planning programs, and so-called emergency contraception. He defended Roe v. Wade, endorsed the proposed Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), and opposed both the Human Life Amendment and the Hyde Amendment. Kennedy maintained a 100% rating from both NARAL and Planned Parenthood. In 1993, he received the Kenneth Edelin Award from Planned Parenthood, and in 2000 received the Champions of Choice Award from NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts at the hands of the same Dr. Kenneth Edelin, the infamous abortionist.”

During his 1994 reelection campaign, Kennedy said ‘I wear as a badge of honor my opposition to the anti-choicers’. His successful obstruction of the nomination of Judge Robert Bork to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1987 effectively prevented the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Beyond his specific positions on human life issues, Senator Kennedy, along with the late Congressman Robert Drinan, provided the cover and the example for two generations of Catholic politicians to defect from Church teaching on the sanctity of innocent human life.”

“No rational person can reasonably be expected to take seriously Catholic opposition to abortion when a champion of the Culture of Death, who repeatedly betrayed the Faith of his baptism, is lauded and extolled by priests and prelates in a Marian basilica. This morning's spectacle is evidence of the corruption which pervades the Catholic Church in the United States. The right to life will never be recognized by secular society if it is not first vindicated and consistently upheld within the institutions of the Church itself.”

Deval Patrick: Bad Choice for Obama's Supreme Court

We saw in the Boston Globe that Obama may be considering Deval Patrick for the U.S. Supreme Court. We say he's eminently unqualified. From his September 2006 appearance at the Harvard GLBT candidate forum, he's committed himself to the most extreme demands of that movement.

To understand Patrick's extremism, look at the company he keeps. Last June, he marched in the Boston Pride parade to support his teenage daughter's "coming out". But he was also lending support to frightening groups promoting dangerous perversions, for instance the sadomasochists who marched right before him.

Deval Patrick marching at Boston Pride, June 14, 2008.

Marching just before the Governor and his teenage daughter were New England Leather Alliance members, who had trouble keeping their pants on and their whips under control.

As a candidate for Governor, Patrick met with the radical GLBT group at Harvard Law School (photo above). Not only is he fully behind "gay marriage" and "hate crimes" laws. While admitting that he didn't know anything about transgenderism, he also promised that he'd support the movement's demands.

See our postings from September 2006:

Gov Candidates Gabrieli and Patrick Favor "Transgender Rights":
"Although Patrick initially conceded that he didn’t understand issues like Transgenderism very well, Gabrieli’s insistence that there should be specific laws protecting transgendered and cross-dressers forced Patrick to affirm that he too, was in favor of specific legislation protecting the rights of transgendered individuals. ... Both candidates stated that they believed in the SJC gay marriage decision, and that they supported more legislation and action by the Governor’s office to extend new rights to the GLBT community."

When a CNN/Opinion Research poll is showing that most Americans (72%) want to see a conservative or moderate appointee, Deval Patrick just won't do.

Is Romney Working with Log Cabin Republicans to Remove Stories from Web?

What's happened to the 2002 Bay Windows story on Mitt Romney and his "gay" Log Cabin Republican supporters? (Bay Windows is the Boston GLBT newspaper.) It used to be readily available on the web. (And Bay Windows used to have a neat section called "The Romney Files" -- which they've also removed, along with their archives search page! Hmm...) Now, a search for "Gay GOP touts Romney as good for the community" pulls up a blank page... But we've saved it! And we're reprinting it here for all you Republican primary voters.

Bay Windows
Gay GOP touts Romney as good for the community
By Laura Kiritsy, 3/28/2002

Mitt Romney rode his wild success organizing this year's Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, all the way back to Massachusetts and right onto center stage as the Republican candidate for governor. But the Olympic gold dust has begun to settle -- Democrats have already taken aim at his inconsistent stance on abortion and criticized his positions on a host of other issues, from fixing the state's budget crisis to managing the Big Dig. And now that gay-friendly Governor Jane Swift has bowed out of the running, gay voters may also be wondering: Is Mitt good for gays?

Good enough, said several gay Republicans who spoke with Bay Windows, including Abner Mason, Swift's deputy chief of staff. "I am absolutely confident that as governor he would continue the commitment to gay equality that was started with [former Republican Governor William] Weld and continued with [former Republican Governor Paul] Cellucci and Swift," said Mason. "He will equal, if not better, the record of Weld, Cellucci and Swift." Mason recently met with Romney in his capacity as Swift's chief policy adviser, and said they discussed ``a wide range of policy issues including gay rights." He declined to disclose the details of that conversation.

Lt. Governor candidate Patrick Guerriero, Swift's gay former running mate, agreed that Romney would be appealing to gay voters. Guerriero noted that Romney did receive support from gay Republicans in his failed 1994 bid for U.S. Senate and currently has gay Republican Jon Spampinato, who actively worked to recruit Romney in the governor's race, on his campaign staff. "The reality is there's a difference between 1994 and now," Guerriero told Bay Windows. "The issues are much more talked about. All the candidates will be called upon to clearly state their positions on gay issues" and the next few months will be a defining period, said Guerriero. "I think you'll see that his policies and stands are going to be rooted in the party of Abraham Lincoln."

Romney got his first chance to prove himself when, just days after announcing his candidacy in the driveway of his Belmont home, it was revealed that his wife, son and daughter-in-law had signed a petition to put the anti-gay "Protection of Marriage" constitutional amendment on the statewide ballot in 2004. Romney campaign spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom told Bay Windows that the family members signed the amendment petition -- which would not only ban gay marriage, but all legal protections for same-sex couples in Massachusetts -- without realizing how restrictive the amendment actually is. "They read the bold print," said Fehrnstrom. "They did not read the fine print."

Romney was unaware his family members had signed the amendment petition, said Fehrnstrom, and he does not support the "Protection of Marriage" amendment. "He is opposed to gay marriage, but in the case of the 'defense of marriage' amendment Mitt believes it goes too far in that it would outlaw domestic partnership for non-traditional couples. That is something he is not prepared to accept." Asked whether Romney supported the domestic-partnership legislation -- which would provide health insurance benefits to the same-sex partners of state employees and give municipalities the choice to do the same -- currently pending before the state legislature's House Ways and Means Committee, Fehrnstrom said he was unsure. In the week since announcing his candidacy, he added, Romney has been involved in "an intense series of issues briefings" intended to bring him up to speed on issues currently facing Massachusetts citizens.

"I think it's very good that Mitt Romney came out and said he opposes the ballot initiative because it goes too far and is extreme," said Gary Daffin, co-chair of the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, a non-partisan organization. But he also adds, "I think we have some more work to do with Mitt Romney" on gay issues.

While Romney's stance against gay marriage -- which is consistent with his position during his '94 senate campaign -- is typical of many political candidates of both major parties, Daffin may have a point. Romney has had to fend off accusations from his fellow members of the Mormon Church that he called gays "perverse" in 1993, and has repeatedly denied the charge. In 1994 he expressed support for "don't ask, don't tell," the U.S. military's ban on openly gay soldiers.

He did, however, pledge to support the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would ban job discrimination based on sexual orientation, and other civil rights protections for gays in the areas of housing and credit. He also promised to bring the initiatives begun in Massachusetts to protect gay and lesbian youth to the federal level.

But what struck the gay GOP during that campaign, according to Massachusetts Log Cabin Republicans (LCR), was Romney's accessibility to and comfort within the local gay community. Romney and his Republican primary opponent, John Lakian, attended an LCR-sponsored candidate's forum during the campaign, where they both competitively vied for the organization's endorsement -- which Romney eventually won. During the course of his campaign, LCR member and former president Mark Goshko told Bay Windows, Romney held several meetings with group members and at least two LCR members joined his staff. Though gay Republicans were by no means running Romney's campaign, "it was really a multi-level involvement," Goshko stated. "Our people were very involved officially and outside of [the campaign]." Given that past level of involvement, said Goshko, "I have no reason to think that things won't develop similarly this time." Goshko and LCR's current president Chris Ferguson, said they have spoken with Romney campaign advisers and are hoping to schedule a sit-down meeting in the coming weeks.

Romney has also come under suspicion for his Mormon beliefs, given the church's leadership on anti-gay efforts in the U.S., and its generally conservative reputation. His opponents have attempted to use his religion to paint him as conservative on social issues, a characterization both Fehrnstrom and Ferguson said is unfair. "There's a rush to characterize Mitt Romney as a right-wing social conservative. I don't think that's entirely fair," said Ferguson. "There may be a lot of reasons at the end of the day not to support him or not to like him, but he should have the opportunity to define for himself what his positions are and not to have people mischaracterize him," he said.

Truth-Telling About the Culture of Death

From a first-trimester abortion [photo: Priests for Life]

Are graphic images legitimate in the abortion battle? Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life says YES: They are both legitimate and absolutely necessary.

Fr. Pavone underlined what we said last week, about the need for anti-abortion protesters to use the graphic images that show the reality of little babies being violently murdered. LifeSite News reported on his recent talk to young Canadian pro-lifers.

You can't pussyfoot with the culture of death. You can't allow that destructive force to choose the terms of the debate. How can killing a human baby be a "choice" or a "right"? (Similarly, how can we allow sexual perversion such as sodomy be called a proper basis for state-sanctioned "marriage", or homosexual "marriage" be called a "right"?) And you can't let that mindset infiltrate your forces, and hint that you should moderate your tone, oppose with gentleness and politeness.

... Let me leave for you what I am convinced is the most powerful tool to change someone's mind about abortion. I told you that I had been involved in this since I was your age, been working on this fulltime across the world, worked with the Holy Father, and Mother Teresa and all these people, worked with the pro-life movement on every level. There is no single thing that I have seen more powerful to change people on abortion than simply showing them the pictures.

Show them what it looks like. I have challenged the media over and over again. Show the public what an abortion is because we can justify anything with our language. If you are a smooth talker, if you know how to manipulate language and logic - you can convince anyone of anything. But pictures, that is another story. When people see what abortion does to a baby, they are stung to the heart and their consciences are awakened. I am not just talking about showing pictures of the baby living in the womb. People understand, by and large, that this is a baby in the womb. Now, they will be very surprised at how much the baby looks like a baby, so early in pregnancy when they do see the pictures, the ultrasound or other ways that we have of viewing the child. Many people will be very surprised to see how well-developed that baby is. But, even if you show them the baby, that still doesn't tell them what abortion does to the baby.

That is a big difference. Some people think abortion just makes the baby kind of disappear. They still don't appreciate that it is an act of violence. It is only the pictures of the aborted children, torn apart, limb from limb that convince people that abortion is an act of violence. Now, at my website, we have one of the largest collections of these pictures - it is priestforlife.org. Right on the front we have a statement on our front page that says, "America will not reject abortion until America sees abortion." And that is true for every country. ...

Lawsuit Against Church in NJ: Coming Soon to Mass.

One of the many ways "the sky is falling": LifeSite News reports that a lesbian couple in New Jersey is suing a church for refusing to let them have their "civil union" ceremony on church property. It won't be long before we see similar lawsuits in Massachusetts against churches that refuse homosexual "marriage" ceremonies on their properties. Just as in New Jersey law, Massachusetts bans discrimination in public accommodations on the basis of "sexual orientattion." Freedom of religion? What's that?

Lesbian Couple Files Complaint against Church for Refusing Civil Union Ceremony
OCEAN GROVE, New Jersey (LifeSiteNews.com) - A New Jersey lesbian couple has filed a civil rights complaint against a Christian seaside retreat association that refused to facilitate their "civil union." Harriet Bernstein and Luisa Paster filed the complaint June 19 with the state attorney general's office on the grounds of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation after the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association declined the use of their Boardwalk Pavilion for their civil union ceremony, planned for September.

Bernstein and Paster demanded "whatever relief is provided by law" including unspecified "compensatory damages for economic loss, humiliation, [and] mental pain." New Jersey's anti-discrimination laws currently forbid those who "offer goods, services, and facilities to the general public" from "directly or indirectly denying or withholding any accommodation, service, benefit, or privilege to an individual" on the basis of sexual orientation.

However the OGCMA has stated that it must adhere to the rules of the United Methodist Book of Discipline, which forbids homosexual civil unions from being performed in churches and other areas for worship. "The facility that they requested is a facility we have used exclusively for our camp meeting mission and worship celebrations since 1869," Scott Hoffman, OGCMA's chief administrative officer told LifeSiteNews.com. ...

Here's the Mass. law:
Chapter 272: Section 98. Discrimination in admission to, or treatment in, place of public accommodation; punishment; forfeiture; civil right
Section 98. Whoever makes any distinction, discrimination or restriction on account of race, color, religious creed, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, which shall not include persons whose sexual orientation involves minor children as the sex object, deafness, blindness or any physical or mental disability or ancestry relative to the admission of any person to, or his treatment in any place of public accommodation, resort or amusement, as defined in section ninety-two A, or whoever aids or incites such distinction, discrimination or restriction, shall be punished by a fine of not more than twenty-five hundred dollars or by imprisonment for not more than one year, or both, and shall be liable to any person aggrieved thereby for such damages as are enumerated ... All persons shall have the right to the full and equal accommodations, advantages, facilities and privileges of any place of public accommodation, resort or amusement subject only to the conditions and limitations established by law and applicable to all persons. This right is recognized and declared to be a civil right.

Response to Our Memorial Day Message

We received this thoughtful response to Brian Camenker's Memorial Day message (posted on our web site, www.MassResistance.org).

Well spoken. I don't know how I was placed on your mailing list but I am grateful to whomever is responsible. I believe the sin of sodomy and lesbianism is the height of rebellion against God's established order. This battle is not about homosexual and lesbian rights. That is only the fruit. The root of the problem is the same as it was in Genesis 3 when Satan challenged God's sovereign right as Creator to establish the rules of life for his creatures. Keep the faith, and fight the good fight, in Jesus' Name.
In His service,
Mr. X

Conservatives Will Not Be Fooled Again

Why was "The Mitt Romney Deception" report written? This piece by Jonathan Chait (Los Angeles Times) gets a lot of things right. Basically, we social conservatives are tired of being had by RINOs.

from "The Religious Right’s Not-So-True Believers" (12-17-06):

Looking over the field of potential Republican presidential candidates, one odd thing jumps out at me: Many of them have expressed deep hostility to the religious right’s point of view in the past, and several are now insisting that they didn’t mean a word of it. One way to look at this is to conclude that they all said or did things they didn’t mean, or that they have come around to the social conservative position. Oddly enough, this is the interpretation many social conservatives seem inclined to accept.

Or there’s the other, more logical interpretation: The Republican Party’s governing class is deeply hostile to social conservatism, and its leaders manage to fool the base over and over again. ... Romney, who had characterized the religious right as “extremists,” said he essentially had the same position on gay rights as Sen. Ted Kennedy...

Social liberalism is unacceptable to GOP primary voters, right? So maybe Romney is faking it now, and all that stuff he said about gay rights and the influence of his moderate father was genuine, no? This would be bad enough for social conservatives if Romney were the moderate in the race. But, in fact, he’s the current favorite among social conservatives.

Indeed, social conservatives don’t even want to hear about Romney’s scandalously tolerant past. Brian Camenker, a right-wing activist who has been sounding the alarm bells about Romney, has gotten a frosty reception from his fellow religious conservatives. “Why are you attacking Romney?”’ they keep asking him, according to my colleague Ryan Lizza [of the New Republic]. “He’s better than (Rudolph W.) Giuliani and (John) McCain." ...

But that was written almost a month ago. Fellow social conservatives are now beginning to get the message. Romney is not their savior.

Romney Has NOT Shifted to Right on "Gay Rights"

The Boston Globe persists in portraying Gov. Mitt Romney as shifting to the right on "gay rights." That's because they refuse to discuss what he really accomplished for the "gay rights" movement: the implementation of homosexual "marriage" in Massachusetts, and the entrenchment of radical GLBT organizations in our public high schools.

While Scott Helman ("Romney's journey to the right," 12-17-06) grudgingly acknowledges
MassResistance as the instigator of the ongoing national re-examination of Romney's positions, he does not seem to have digested the parts of our report outlining:
If this isn't forceful advocacy for the homosexual movement, we don't know what is!

In today's Herald, George Will's commentary, "
Ghosts of comments past haunt McCain, Romney," also fixates on Romney's 1994 statements to the Log Cabin Republicans, and ignores these major problems with his record.

For now, it seems, we have to settle for the mainstream media's hyper-focus on Romney's 1994 statements and the abortion issue. But they cannot go on ignoring these major stories much longer. Eventually they'll be forced to notice (by his Republican primary opponents) that his advocacy and implementation of "gay rights" has extended throughout his tenure as Governor. Will the Globe then refer to such information as a "screed" from the McCain or Brownback campaign headquarters?
